Using Natural Health Methods to Feel Better
Fighting Off a Cold
Fighting off a cold or flu does not have to mean spending lots of money at the store. All of the natural health cures that you need to get better quickly are probably well-stocked in your kitchen already! Many people think that all they need to get better is to go to the store, buy some medication and hooray! The impending flu has been foiled! Natural health remedies can help you stay well, save you money and save you quite a lot of time that would otherwise be spent trying to decide which over-the-counter medication would do the most good.
Start with water. There is more to drinking water than getting the proverbial six to eight glasses a day that we all need to survive. When you have a headache, try drinking some water instead of heading for the aspirin or Advil bottle. Many headaches start because of dehydration. Instead of waiting a long time for the drugs to take effect, drinking a glass of water will help you feel better in just a few minutes. While water is great for hydration it is great for other things too. Breaking fevers is usually done by having someone sit in a hot bath with a cool compress on their heads. Hot baths are great for relaxing the muscles as well as helping you sweat your fever out. Sweating is one of the ways your body regulates its temperature and reduces fevers.
Getting Vitamin C
You can get vitamin C from more things than oranges and orange juice! Vitamin C is found in leafy greens as well! When you feel a cold or flu starting to take hold, start chowing down on salads and other leafy greens to help combat the germs that are trying to invade. There are other fruits, especially citrus fruits that contain copious amounts of Vitamin C!
Adding bell peppers to your foods is a great idea because bell peppers are another good source of vitamin C! The added boost to the flavor won’t just help your flu-y taste buds taste the soup better, you’ll be helping your body fight off the infection altogether.
Minimize Sugar Intake
Your immune system is weakened when you consume sugar and you are more likely to catch a cold. If you want to feel healthier, eating less sugar is the way to go-just ask someone who used to eat sugar but has stopped doing so. Sugary drinks can be comforting when we don’t feel well but plain water is better for our health. Taking in a lot of sugar can counteract the good that the rest of your natural health remedies might be doing. Natural health remedies are great methods of fighting the flu and the common cold. Are you so desperate to not feel your symptoms that you’ll fill your body with chemicals even though natural health methods work just as well? Don’t reach for the drugs out of habit-choose a healthier method instead. Don’t forget to give yourself permission to rest up otherwise nothing you do will help you get better.
