Fitness ProgramEncouraging a lifelong commitment to physical wellnessThe Fitness Program at University Senior Living is open to all residents. The primary focus is on range of motion, strength, balance, and stamina. The program operates under the direction of the Fitness Director who is a nationally certified exercise specialist and personal trainer who specializes in working with older adults. The Fitness Program consists of three group fitness classes a week conducted by our fitness director who is aware of the individual needs of each resident. The classes combine appealing music and a variety of props to increase motivation. We also provide a weekly yoga class for those interested. Individual fitness work takes place in University Senior Living’s Wellness Center. The center is supplied with Keiser resistance machines that have been specifically designed with older adults in mind. Keiser machines are often used in many of the pioneering studies on strength gains in an aging population. In addition, the center is equipped with a NuStep machine which is found in most physical therapy and rehabilitation clinics. Elastic resistance bands and free weights are also available for resident use. All participants in the Fitness Program are required to have a physician’s clearance, which includes individual cautions and limitations. |
